Last week we talked about fire as and element. This week we’re checking out water magic.
As an element its importance cannot be over stated. Just like air we must have it constantly or we will die.
Some believe when the world was formed and in its molten state, water enveloped the whole earth and cooled her down.
It can completely extinguish fire and in her air is subdued and thrown out. Her mastery over the other elements makes her magic powerful.
Water is feminine in nature and as such is healing, psychic, and loving. She invites us into her, gently welcoming us inside. But, when she is done with us our skin begins to wrinkle and we know it’s time to leave.
She is a heavy, passive element. It always takes the easy path to its destination. It’s associated with darkness, thickness and motion. We cannot move in it like we can air. And deeper you go the darker it will get.
The direction associated with water is west. This is the place of the setting sun. Where I live in Oregon west is also the direction leading to the Pacific Ocean. We look to the west to find nurturing spirit a boost to our intuition and feminine issues.
Her color is blue like the water of the deep blue sea. This is the color we look upon with wide wonder. No matter how many times we have gazed out at the ocean, the color and motion of that water fills us full of anticipation and if the truth is known some amount of fear.
The places sacred to water are, of course, anyplace you find water the ocean, the sea, the river, the bath tub, your fish tank? Maybe even that is sacred to water. What can I say any place where water naturally gathers is a good bet right, but also when a pot, bowl or bottle are dedicated to the task of carrying or holding water, It becomes a sacred place to water.
Magically speaking this element is good for purifications, love spells, spells to gain psychic awareness, to cause dreams, to bring sleep, to give you peace and also spells for matters of marriage and friendship.
The forms her magic often take are spells that involve the dilution of something, placing something in water, washing something or bathing someone. It’s often present on the altar during a spell to lend her presence even if she is not directly involved in the working itself.
There are stones you can use in your magic to strengthen your spiritual connection to the element. Any stone that is transparent or translucent is perfect for this. Some examples of would be amethyst and aquamarine. Naturally blue stones like blue tourmaline are also batteries for the spirit of sea.
Autumn is the time of year special to the element of water. Summer is done. The rain has come and chased away the sun’s rays. This is the time of the harvest. It is time to reap the rewards of summers bounty and store them away for winter will soon be here. And, as you may have guest dusk is waters favorite time of day.
