Spiritual energy is all around you. Gods and goddesses, angels and demons, fairies and ghosts all exist. They all have their own agenda and their own preferences. Your job as a witch is to know what those preferences are and use them to get what you want. You know just like with your significant other.
Information about them is readily available on the web and in books. Do just a little research and you will find the information you need. Once you have gotten to know the spiritual energy you seek it’s time to put it to work.
The manipulation of spiritual energy is a delicate balance between humble gratitude and arrogant willfulness. Does that make sense? I imagine not, but think of it this way. When you call the name of your intended spirit you must be commanding. However, never forget whom you’re dealing with. The spirit of thanksgiving is also appropriate. Putting it simply, know what you want. Accept nothing else, but be thankful and respectful.
Some entities like gods, goddesses, angels and fairies requires a more respectful and thankful approach. The lack of this ingredient can cause your ritual to go a little wonky and you don’t want a pissed of fairy running around believe me.
Creatures like Demons and ghost require a bit more of a heavy hand. Demons especially can be a little treacherous. They might try to trick you. A ghost can do nothing for you but answer simple questions. Be firm but kind with them and always be aware, they may lie.
Do you have a special place you like to hang out? So do the spirits. When trying to raise spiritual energy of a specific kind remember that where you do the spell can help to increase your connection.
Almost every spirit has a favorite place. Some like crossroads, some like barns, some caves and some love the beach. The deep woods are a favorite for some spirits and let’s not forget the cornfields, which frankly gives me the creeps.
I know what you’re thinking. Terri, there is no way in hell I’m going to be able to do my spell in a cornfield or on the beach. That’s okay simply bringing in a representation of such a place will do. Again just a little research on your intended spirit will reveal this information.
There are many different kinds of altars one can set up, and their uses are varied to say the least. The most common altar is one set up in the home to honor a deity. The altar we are speaking of is what I like to call a working altar. It is used to attract the specific spirit whose attention you’re seeking and also for the manipulation of magical substances to make magic happen.
It’s here you’ll put your articles meant to call the spirits attention. Remember to leave some room to do the spell though. An alter that’s too crowded is difficult to work on.
Certain colors attract certain types of spiritual energy. The Goddess Hecate favors black and orange, her favorite time of year is Halloween. Do you notice a connection? On one night of the year everyone decorates their home in black and orange and dress up as witches. The goddess of witches then feels right at home.
Every holiday has its color theme and there is a reason why. It’s because most holidays are connected to some spirit or another.
Color is not only good for attracting spiritual energy, but also for putting your deep mind in tune with it. Make no mistake. You not only want to attract but also connect.
Color can be used in magic in a number of ways. An altar cloth can be used. Colored candles can adorn it. The clothes you wear can be of the specific color. Anything you have that is of the needed color can help attune you to the frequency of the energy you’re calling.
Because color can be used for two purposes in a ritual I feel it’s prudent to mention that I personally will represent the spirit with candles and use more color that puts me in tune with the frequency of that I’m trying to manifest.
Next week we’ll talk more tools. We’ll talk in depth about scent, stones, animals and the use of blood. I personally can’t wait and I hope to see you here.
