Last week on The Magic Owl
Spiritual energy is everywhere. Last week we talked about some ways you can tap into it. We discussed the attitude of the practitioner during a ritual. Then we talked about the best place to do a ritual. We looked at what an altar might consist of, and finally the use of color in drawing spiritual energy. This week let’s move on to scent, stones, animals, blood and more.
The sense of smell is one of the strongest we humans have. Smell can awaken parts of our deep mind and trigger memories we don’t even know we have . We associate things with scent. Spirits are drawn to different scents also.
The scent of pine is special to Diana as she is goddess of the hunt. The Goddess Flora loves the smell of wild flowers. Again, once you know who you are calling on then do a little research and find out what scent is best used.
One hint I can give you is if you can’t locate what scent is special to the spiritual energy your calling on, try finding a scent that represents your desire. They are often the very same and if not will do.
When you use stones and crystals in magic you have the chance to employ a triple benefit . First every stone carries and energy all it’s own. Then the vibration of certain stones is attractive to spiritual energy. Third most stones and especially crystals can act as batteries to hold energy.
If you cannot find out what stone or crystal is in alignment with your spiritual energy, the use of a quartz crystal is a great idea because it is the most universal and is also the most useful as a battery stone.
Everyone loves animals and the gods are no different. Some spirits love Dogs. Hecate loves the bitch. Some love cat’s, some horses and frogs and mice, the list is as infinite as there are gods and almost as much as there are animals.
Once again if you get to know the spirit or god/goddess you intend to call on then you will more than likely have run into this information. I’ve always had really good luck with google.
It isn’t necessary to employ the actual animal but a piece of it will do, and failing that even a representation or picture of the animal will help tune the atmosphere to the correct frequency.
From the beginning of time man has been aware of the power of blood. Blood sacrifice has occurred on every continent in the world and is a part of the history of almost every religion. We know it is powerful, and we know the gods love it.
Satanism got a bad wrap in the last century or two, having been accused of being the cause of it all. But the rational mind must conclude that since it’s been going on from the dawn of time, and Satanism wasn’t around until the Jews introduced Satan, they cannot be at fault. The Hebrew people in particular were big fans of animal sacrifice.
Most of the time just the amount you get from a pricking your finger with a pin will suffice as the presence of blood seems to be all that’s needed. If you need to make a sigil in blood you will need more. Your own is best but that of another or an animal will suffice.
Blood is a tricky thing. Some would say there are moral issues attached. I am a witch and am not bound by such clap trap, however, in the case of human blood other than your own, be very careful in handling it. Blood is indeed life, but it can also bring death.
