There are a host of opinions about what the spirit realm actually is. Some think it’s a whole world paralleling ours that is unseen to human eyes. The spirits reside there and all they really want to do is to get back here. (I’m not sure why)
Others, like me, think the spirits exist in the same realm as us and only they are invisible. It isn’t getting back here they want, but to possess a body so they can interact with us. They want what we want.
Not all spirits are looking for a body, though. Some are perfectly happy just the way they are. It’s the spirits of the dead who long for a body. There are, however, other spirits who live among us, like angels, fairies, demons goddesses and gods. All of these have their own power. This is power you can tap into.
Not all spirits are friendly. And trust me it’s not always easy to tell who is and who isn’t. I don’t want to scare you, because working with spirits is wonderful and oh so very rewarding. However, Treat the spirits like you would a human. Eyes wide open should be the watchword here.
I’ve known some witches who seem to think whatever the spirits say to them is true, even if it’s not logical. Here is where a witch’s power of discernment really becomes a benefit. When what a spirit says to you doesn’t feel right, then listen to your intuition. Sometimes, spirits will try to mislead you. I have no idea why. Divination (which we will cover later) can help here.
The Spirits love attention. It’s been said if you say the devils name he’ll come. He’s not the only one. If you know the name of the spirit you wish to summon you’re half way there. The Bible is full of references to the fact that not even God can resist his own name.
Isaiah 58:9 says, “Then you will call, and the lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say, here am I.” Psalm 91:15 says, “He will call on me and I will answer him.” This instruction was given all the way through the bible. One could say it’s one of this grimoires, strongest themes.
Placing the name of a deity on an object will make it special to them. Some witches say, (and I’m one of them) that placing the name of a god or goddess on something will imbue it with some of the attributes of the said spirit.
It’s possible to do a spell where the only words actually spoken are the names of the gods and goddesses being invoked. These can be chanted while symbolic objects on the altar or table are manipulated to represent the desire. The names of the gods are powerful. And, when you want their attention all you need do is ask. Just be sure you want their attention.
Speaking the name of a deity before doing affirmations will help to empower your intention. Call upon the name of a god who represents what you’re trying to affirm. It doesn’t matter if you are a practitioner of the dark or of the light. All gods and goddesses love the sound of their name. If you call it, you have their attention. Now whether they act on your behalf is another matter.
On our way out of this subject I wish to state that if you call on the name of a spirit, angel, demon, god or goddess you have their attention. This, however, does not mean if you speak the name of a demon it will appear. Getting an angel or demon to actually manifest and interact with you is a dangerous and complicated process and is usually not successful. Only an experienced wizard or sorceress should attempt such a working.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about departed spirits, fairies, angels, demons or gods and goddesses. They are all egocentric and love to hear their own name, and why not? Their names are often unusual and quite beautiful. Oh and have I mentioned they are very powerful?
Do you have a desire you’re looking to fulfill? Do you have a question you need answered? Do you have someone or something you need out of the way? Your first move should be to find out what god or goddess is also interested in it and then for goodness sake call upon their name.
Now that you have done all that and you have the attention of the right spirit or spirits, let’s talk about what motivates them on your behalf, next week on The Magic Owl.
