Meditation has been around almost since the beginning of time. The demands of modern life make it feel like there’s never enough time in our day. This invites impatience, unhappiness, stress and frustration. When can one possibly find time to meditate?
What is Meditation
What is meditation? It is the act or process of spending time in quiet thought. Most often the meditation is centered on a single thought or object. Sometimes it is accompanied by a mantra and sometimes not.
Why do Meditation
It gives you more time in your day by calming your mind and giving you focus. It will help you find inner peace and balance. Meditation has been used on many occasions to transform negative thinking into positive. This creates constructive behavior patterns.
Meditation has also been known to cause physical changes to occur in the body.
- Lowering heart rate
- Lowering blood pressure
- Eliminating tension
- Focusing thought patterns
Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. It is a spiritual practice which can also help us to understand the dimension of the universe in which we live.
How to do meditation
Find a comfortable seat with good posture. Be sure to keep the back straight. If you need to use a cushion do so and make sure the back is slightly raised. This will help. You will need something to focus on like a candle flame, a symbol or a word.
The hands should be placed in the lap on top of the other. They can also rest softly on the knees or even in the om position. Try to free yourself of distractions. The room must be quiet and still in order to help reach a level or deep rest. Or if you desire it is okay to use quiet music or mantras.
Different kinds of Meditation
There are many types of meditation. You can use different kinds to accomplish your objectives. Which one you use depends on what you are trying to do.
The simplest form of meditation is to sit quietly in a comfortable position with your back straight and shut out all thoughts and just listen to the sound of your breathing. This is done to find your center and to bring your mind to a new level of focus.
It can be done using mantras, music or affirmations. You can use different positions. It can be performed alone or with up to several other people.
Are you doing it the right way?
There is no right or wrong way to meditate. The important thing is to create a cadence and stick to it. Give yourself over to and become one with the universe and with the Goddess.
You will find it a bit of a struggle at first. You will wonder if you are doing it correctly. You will wonder what the heck you’re doing it for. You will want to quit. Don’t because if you stick with it you will indeed find what you’re looking for.
