When I sat down to write this blog I struggled with what to say about my philosophy of magic. If you’re like me you’re probably not looking for philosophy, but instead the freedom to choose your own path. We’ve all had our fill of religion. No true witch complies with patterns of behavior laid down by the harbingers of right and wrong anyway. Here you will find no Wiccan or Christian thou shalt and thou shalt not’s.
I can forgive the Christians because their whole religion is built on a philosophy of guilt. But Wiccans are a different matter. They’re witches and are supposed to be free. However, Wiccans say if you wish someone harm the universe will throw it back at you times three.
That’s simply not true. The universe is not keeping score. You will not be punished for not always being positive. Continually dwelling on darkness will cause the law of attraction to start pulling that kind of thing to you, but a curse here and there will not do it. As a matter of fact, there are times when a curse is necessary.
The Wiccan golden rule says, “and harming no other, thy will be done.” This is actually a perversion taken from Alester Crowley, who coined the phrase “Thine own will shall be the whole of the law.
Now I’m not throwing in with Crowley and I am certainly not advocating black magic. But magic does need to be based on what you really want, not what Wicca (or anyone else) finds acceptable.
The Universe is made of positive and negative energy. So are we. This applies to our physical and spiritual nature. It’s woven through our emotional and mental workings as well.
This is a truth man tries to overcome with the use of religion. Instead, we need to embrace it in order to find balance.
If we dispense with the religion, placed around the use of magic we will find the earth and the universe are both vessels of light and dark energy which is in perfect balance. To find balance in our lives we must be like them.
The truth is you are perfect just the way you are. The Universe doesn’t try to be balanced. The Earth doesn’t try to be beautiful. They just are. If you have a dark side, revel in it. If you are too cute to handle, that is balance for you. That is part of your beauty.
If you are looking for rules to help you live your life according to a moral code. This is not the blog for you. You might try being a Baptist or a Wiccan. If however, you are looking for real magic to help you work your will in your world, sit down, grab a cup of mugwort tea and join us next week as we explore just how one becomes a witch.
