Last week we talked about air as an element. This week let’s turn our attention to the magic of fire.
is a powerful element. Because of its volatile nature it should be handled with care at all times. It’s the element that governs Lust, passion and creativity.
It’s the spirit of transformation and change. All that’s wonderful, but don’t forget this spirit can become a demon in a hurry.
It’s masculine in nature. It’s aggressive and just as volatile. It is both physically and spiritually sexual as its nature is passionate, creative and full of will power. Despite Its sensual side fire can be testy and hurtful to say the least. I can’t say it enough. Always handle fire with care.
The direction associated with him is South the place of greatest light and heat. The equator which has the hottest climate on earth lies to the south.
We see things in the southern hemisphere to be passionate and exotic. Thus the same attributes have attached themselves to the south and of course fire.
Red is his color because fire itself is red. There can be no mistaking the look of flame. Its sensual movement is mesmerizing and can leave you in a trance like state. Be careful. Don’t get too close.
The places sacred to fire are deserts, hot springs, volcano’s, bedrooms sauna’s and sweat houses. Places that make or house heat are all sacred to the flame. If you make a fire pit at your home, or alternatively a censor that can hold flame; these too are sacred to fire and to the south.
Magic covered by fire would include energy, courage, banishing negativity, sex, strength, authority and protection. On the dark side it can bring pain, unrest, fear and ruin.
Don’t forget about love. If done right fire can bring about a hot steamy love affair, however, they usually end up burning out quickly and leaving you heartbroken.
Rituals done with the help of fire would include burning a symbol of the thing you fear or desire. It could come in the form of smoldering it, cooking it or heating it in some way like boiling. (This also falls under water magic).
Stones that are connected to fire are red or fiery jasper, volcanic lava and clear quartz crystal. The magical tool attached to it is the Athame or witches knife. And on the herbal side look for anything hot. It’s just that simple with this side of the year.
Speaking of time of year, the one represented by fire is summer. The harvest is almost here. Everything is green and full of life. The heat of summer is on us and we can bare our souls and our bodies in the warmth of the sun. The time of day blessed by fire is straight up noon as this is the time of greatest light.
Like air, it’s always in motion. you can see it smell it and feel it. but I believe the sense most closely linked with out friend is touch. To feel his warmth is pure heaven on a cold winter night.
